Top PSP Questions
* Is there a significant difference in battery life if you
overclock your PSP processor?
Overclocking will make your PSP's processor run faster, and in
the process, use more juice. The standard PSP processor runs
at 222MHz. People regularly overclock a PSP up to 333MHz.
Technically this is not really overclocking, which is term that
refers to speeding up a PC CPU to beyond its design
specification. The PSP processor is actually designed to run at
333MHz, but is limited to 66% of that to conserve battery life
and reduce heat. Prepare yourself for battery life of around 2 hrs
(on a good day) if you do this mod.
* How do I add photos to my PSP?
You can just put your photos on a memory stick duo, or
connect your PSP using a USB cable to your computer. If you
connect wiht a USB cable, you'll be able to drag your pictures
from your computer to your PSP.
If you're using Windows XP or Vista, do the following to get your
photos:
1) On your PC go to "Start" then "My Computer" then
"removable disk or storage"
2) You'll see a folder called "PSP" in the removable folder.
3) Inside the "PSP" folder you'll find a folder called "SAVEDATA".
Don't open it
4) Right click in the PSP folder to create a new folder. Name it
"Photos".
5) Drag photos from your PC to this new folder you just
created.
6) When you're finished, go into the system tray on your PC.
It's the area on the lower right portion of your screen,
immediately to the left of the clock. One of the icons there will be
a little, green "U" shaped thing. When you mouse over it, it will
indicate you can safely remove the removable disk that is the
same drive letter as your PSP. Click on the green icon. In about
3 seconds you'll be told it's safe to remove that drive. Unplug
the USB cable.
* Can I play Netflix downloads on my PSP?
* How can I spot a fake memory stick?
You should use a Sony Memory Stick with your PSP for the best
results. Unfortunately many people look on auction sites, such
as e-Bay, or classified ad sites like craiglslist to buy memory sticks
for their PSP. The problem is that many of these are fakes, just
like that Rolex you bought off craigslist last year.
How can you spot one of these fake memory sticks? Well, the
best thing is to just bite the bullet and buy your memory sticks
from a reliable source. Failing that here are some tips you can
use to help make sure you don't get caught with your stick
hanging out in the wind.
Package -
The real McCoy will have a heat weld seal around the plastic. You
know these; they're a real pain to remove. You normally have to
cut through the plastic with a sharp knife. Most of the fakes will
use a glued seal instead. The use of a glued seal around the
package is a dead give away that the sticks isn't genuine.
Default Capacity -
Genuine 4GB sticks will have a default capacity of 3,839mb and
2GB will report 1,909mb. Fakes can give just about anything.
Speed -
Genuine Sony memory sticks with the red stripe will give you
80mb/second transfer speeds. You'll see about a 10 - 20%
reduction in speed with many of the fake memory sticks.
